It is said that an artist must only do one subject in one style and media to be recognized.  The Renaissance masters did not understand that and neither do I.  The world is too full of wonderful things to only choose one item and do it over and over – how dull!

It could be argued that I do only one thing: light and shadow.  All my pieces accent light and shadow – it is what makes them come to life.  The fact that I enjoy different forms for the light and shadow to fall over makes it seem that I do not focus on one thing.

Many times I will tell a story, illustrate an inspiration or fill a subject with symbols

I use all media:  watercolor, acrylic, oil, pencil, pen and ink, sculpture.

Depending on what I want to communicate to the audience will dictate what media to use.

I love watercolor for its spontaneous activity that glows through transparent layers of paint.  Sometimes a subject can only be captured by large sweeps of tenacious color and thick application, so acrylic or oil is called upon.  The backbone of any work of art is drawing and design.  All my works benefit from decades of studying both.  There is no end to subject matter.

I love to celebrate the world we live in by understanding it through recreating it in a work of art.
